WW2 German Eastern Front Medal Full Size NO MAKER MARK

The WW2 German Eastern Front Medal, also known as the “Ostmedaille,” was instituted on May 26, 1942. It was awarded to German and Axis personnel who served on the Eastern Front during the harsh winter campaign of 1941-1942. The medal’s design features a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a swastika, perched above a crossed sword and branch, while the reverse displays the dates “1941/42” surrounded by a laurel wreath. This full-size specimen is produced from zinc or a similar alloy and retains the original finish and suspension ring. The ribbon included is red with white-black borders, symbolizing the blood and hardships endured on the Russian front. This example has no maker mark, a common feature among wartime-issued medals. The Eastern Front Medal was colloquially referred to as the “Frozen Meat Medal” due to the severe conditions faced by recipients.
