The WW2 German Luftwaffe Observer’s Badge, manufactured by P. Meybauer, Berlin, is a military decoration awarded to qualified aircrew personnel of the German Air Force during the Second World War. Instituted on 26 March 1936, the badge was presented to Luftwaffe observers who completed training and operational flights. This example, produced by the firm P. Meybauer, features the typical two-piece construction: a silvered wreath of oak and laurel leaves encircling a separately applied, darkened national eagle in flight. The reverse is usually fitted with a vertical pin and is marked with the maker’s details. Measuring approximately 50mm in height, the badge was typically worn on the left breast pocket of the service tunic. The Luftwaffe Observer’s Badge represented proficiency in reconnaissance and scouting roles, essential tasks within the air force structure. P. Meybauer was recognized for producing quality insignia for various German military organizations during this period.
