The Canadian Forces Airborne Combat Tab is a cloth insignia awarded to qualified members of Canadian Airborne units. Introduced in the 1970s, the tab was worn on the upper sleeve of the combat uniform and identified personnel who completed the demanding Airborne qualification course. The tab features the word “AIRBORNE” in gold lettering on an arched maroon background, reflecting the traditional color associated with airborne and parachute forces internationally. Measuring approximately 10 cm by 2.5 cm, it is sometimes paired with other regimental insignia or wings depending on the uniform regulations of the period. The Airborne Combat Tab is most closely associated with the Canadian Airborne Regiment, which was active from 1968 to 1995, but has also been worn by members of other airborne-qualified units within the Canadian Forces. The insignia represents successful completion of airborne training and service within these specialized units.
