This item is a single World War II Canadian Grenadier Guards canvas shoulder title insignia. Made from khaki-colored canvas with red embroidered lettering, the title reads “GRENADIER GUARDS” in uppercase. Such insignia were worn on the upper sleeves of battlestress uniforms by members of the Canadian Grenadier Guards, a regiment of the Canadian Army. These cloth shoulder titles identified the wearer’s unit within the Canadian Army during the Second World War. The canvas material and embroidered design are typical of wartime production, reflecting resource constraints and the need for easily produced insignia. The patch measures approximately 13 cm in length and 3 cm in height, with raw cut edges, as was common for this type of insignia. This item would have been issued to and worn by Canadian soldiers in the European theater and other areas of service between 1939 and 1945 as part of their standard battledress ensemble.
