The Canadian 1951 Pattern Basic Pouches are standard-issue components of the Canadian Army’s 1951 Pattern webbing system, introduced in the early 1950s. Constructed from heavy-duty cotton webbing, these pouches were designed to hold ammunition and small equipment necessary for infantry soldiers. Each pouch features a flap closure secured by a metal fastener, providing protection for contents and ease of access. The pouches attach to the belt and shoulder harness via metal hooks and loops, enabling modular configuration to suit the wearer’s needs. Markings often include dates and manufacturer codes on the inside flap or back. The 1951 Pattern webbing system, including these basic pouches, was used by Canadian forces during the post-Second World War period and through the Korean War, before being superseded by later patterns. These pouches reflect mid-20th-century military design and remain of interest to collectors of Canadian military equipment and historical gear.
