The WW2 German Mothers Cross in Gold is a civilian decoration instituted by the Third Reich on 16 December 1938. Officially known as the Cross of Honour of the German Mother (Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter), it was awarded in three classes—bronze, silver, and gold—to mothers who exhibited exemplary commitment to raising children in accordance with state ideals. The Gold class represents the highest level and was presented to mothers with eight or more children. The decoration is in the shape of a cross with blue and white enamel arms, edged in gold, and features a central medallion bearing a black swastika surrounded by the inscription “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER.” The reverse typically displays a date mark of “16 Dezember 1938.” A blue and white ribbon accompanies the cross, allowing it to be worn around the neck. The German Mothers Cross provides insight into the social policies and recognition systems of Nazi Germany during the Second World War.
