The WW1 Canadian CEF 139th Battalion Cap Badge is a military insignia issued to members of the 139th (Northumberland) Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, during the First World War. Formed in 1915 and based in Cobourg, Ontario, the 139th Battalion recruited personnel primarily from Northumberland County. The badge is typically constructed of brass or bronze and features a maple leaf design, prominently displaying the battalion number “139” and the word “Canada” as part of its central motif. Above the number, a crown signifies allegiance to the British Crown, a common element in Canadian military heraldry of the period. The reverse side may show evidence of lug or slider attachments for securing the badge to uniform headgear. Cap badges such as this served both as unit identifiers and symbols of regimental pride during service overseas and at home. The 139th Battalion was eventually absorbed into other units after arrival in England in 1916.
